The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a process by which the community initiates into its midst unbaptized adults, baptized adults from another faith denomination seeking communion with the Catholic Church, and those preparing for full initiation through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. This process prepares them to receive the Sacraments, and to live the Catholic life of faith. Attendance at class does not obligate you to join the Catholic faith.
Do you wish you could remember what you learned in CCD or Catholic School? Do you ever wonder why you were Confirmed? Baptized? Even if you have received your sacraments, you are invited to attend the RCIA classes and connect to your Catholic faith.
OCIA is a process that allows adults to learn about the Catholic Church and what it teaches and holds as truth, and why. It is an opportunity to join with others to hear about parishioner experiences and receive information about our Catholic faith. There is no "hard sell". You decide.
We generally meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from September to May. There are points along the process where attendees can decide to continue. Attendees who choose to fully commit and actively join the Catholic church will receive the Sacraments at Easter Vigil Mass.
Our 2021/22 RCIA program begins with an informational setting on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 PM in the Blessed Sacrament Rectory Basement. The entrance is at 1725 W. Walnut St. It is not necessary to sign up but if you would like to know more, please contact Bob Vincent at 217-523-4335 or the parish office at 528-7521.
